A Criminal Case Over the Strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Kramatorsk Killing Numerous Civilians Has Been Initiated

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has initiated a criminal case against the commander of the brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other unidentified persons. The investigation sees in their actions signs of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

The investigation has established that on April 8, 2022, servicemen of the 19th separate missile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out deliberately criminal orders of the brigade commander and other higher commanders and officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Acting deliberately, they used the Tochka-U tactical missile system with a cluster charge, which has high damaging properties, to carry out targeted shelling of civilian infrastructure facilities in the area of the railway station of the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk People's Republic. The shelling killed at least 30 civilians, including children, and injured at least 100 people of varying severity.

According to reports, Colonel F.S. Yaroshevich is the commander of the 19th separate missile brigade. The investigating authorities are establishing the circle of persons who carried out the criminal order.

At the same time, the Ukrainian side disseminated deliberately false information that the strike on the city had been inflicted by Russian military personnel. Based on this fact, another criminal case has also been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation).
