New Criminal Cases Have Been Initiated Over the Facts of Massive Shelling of Settlements in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two more criminal cases over the facts of shelling of the settlements in the LPR and DPR by the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military units, which killed and injured people and damaged infrastructure; the criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population; the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to investigators, from April 9 to April 10, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military units carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high damaging properties against infrastructure in the cities of Donetsk, Mariupol, Makeevka, Gorlovka, Yasinovataya, as well as the towns of Yakovlevka, Vladimirovka and Pavlovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The shelling killed eight civilians and injured 20 people of varying severity, including a minor; damaged residential buildings, a facility near the hospital, a school building, a kindergarten, gas pipelines, as well as the rail tracks of the Yasinovataya railway station. Eleven more civilians who suffered injuries of varying severity as a result of shelling of the city of Mariupol turned to healthcare institutions of the Donetsk People’s Republic for medical help.

Under similar circumstances, from April 8 to April 10, the Ukrainian military also fired at civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Pervomaisk, Irmino, as well as in the town of Kalinovo in the Lugansk People’s Republic. The shelling damaged a preschool educational institution and residential buildings. One civilian was injured.

The Investigative Committee will continue to record all the crimes of the Kiev regime. The persons involved in their commission will be identified and held accountable.
