Criminal Cases Initiated on Instances of Torture and Abuse of Russian Servicemen in Ukraine

The military investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation have initiated criminal cases against unidentified persons participating in the armed conflict on the Ukraine side on the grounds of crimes under Paragraphs A, B, D, G, J, K of Part 2 of Article 105 (murder of two or more persons in connection with their official activities, committed on the grounds of hatred or enmity with particular cruelty, as well as in order to conceal another crime) and Part 1 of Article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code (the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare).

Once the hostilities were over, the bodies of 4 killed Russian servicemen with traces of torture and abuse were found. According to the experts, they suffered the injuries when they were still alive. These facts are evidence of the violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War of 12.08.1949 by the Ukrainian party.

With participation of specialists, the servicemen's bosies were examined, fingerprinting was performed, and forensic medical examinations were scheduled. The persons who delivered the victims to medical institutions were questioned. Jointly with the departments of the People's Militia of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Russian law enforcement authorities are carrying out measures to identify persons involved in committing these crimes.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal cases continues.
