The criminal cases are opened for the desecration of monuments devoted to the Soviet Soldiers in Germany

The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened 4 criminal cases for the desecration of monuments devoted to the Soviet Soldiers in Germany.

According to the investigation, in the period from March 29 to April 7, 2022, several memorial sites were desecrated in Germany, they perpetuated the memory of the Soviet Soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War and participated in the liberation of Europe from Nazism. Among them there  are the following sites – monuments located in Treptov park and on the  Teodaor-Hois-platz  Square in Berlin. The attackers caused the insulting inscriptions to the objects. All these actions constitute a crime, in accordance with the paragraphs «а,b» Part.2 Art.243.4 of the Criminal Code of the RF (damage of war graves, monuments and other memorial sites and facilities perpetuating the memory of those who was killed in the defense of the Homeland or its interests or dedicated to the Days of Military Glory of Russia).

In addition, the unknowns covered the T-34 Soviet tanks with plate-blanket, located in Tiergarten Park in Berlin, these tanks were a part of the ensemble of the Soviet Military Memorial. The unknowns intended to hide the symbols of military glory of Russia from public view. Due to these actions the criminal case is launched in accordance with the Part.4 Art.354.1 of the Criminal Code of the FR (the desecration of symbols of military glory of Russia).

The Investigative Committee investigates all the circumstances and persons who committed the crime.
