Chairman of the Investigative Committee visited servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and children injured in Donbass

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, visited the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and children who were injured in the Donbas territory as a result of shelling by Ukrainian nationalists in Moscow hospitals.

Earlier, following the instructions of the Head of the Body, the Department for educational work officials, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, have evacuated families with young children aged 1.5 months to 17 years from the DPR and LPR to the city of Moscow. This responsible and truly thorough work was carried out with the assistance of the ministries of health and the Commissioners for Children's Rights of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Great assistance was provided by the Territorial Scientific and Practical Center for Disaster Medicine of the Moscow Health Department in transporting the wounded and injured.

Currently, most of the arrived children are being treated at the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Trauma, and the smallest patient has been sent to the A.N. Bakulev’s Scientific Center for Cardiovascular for examination. The capital's doctors note that it the delivery of small patients to Russia safely for the subsequent rehabilitation became possible due to the professional and sensitive attitude of colleagues from the Republican Trauma Center of the Ministry of Health of the DPR, who took all urgent measures to save the lives of the victims. Today, Russian and Donetsk doctors are in constant contact, uniting and directing their efforts and experience to help the wounded.

In addition to serious health problems, the victims received severe psychological trauma that requires long-term rehabilitation.

Every story is full of pain and tears. The forced separation of children and parents, the lack of news and understanding about what was going on and where the members of the family were located became a real experience for the evacuated families. However, today, thanks to the Investigative Committee officers’ participation and not staying indifferent, the relatives manage to reunite. So, here below is a story about one young patient, who was injured in his leg, but regained the maternal warmth and care. When the Ukrainian side started mass shelling, the woman sent her son from the suburb where they lived to her friends in Mariupol. Her husband and she were forced to hide in basements. In mid-March, any connection was lost. While the boy was under the Donetsk doctors supervision, his mother and other relatives have been evacuated. And only in Russia, their long-awaited meeting became true. Now they have a long way to go together in order to get recuperated and return back to a peaceful life.

In the trauma unit, A.I. Bastrykin visited children aged 5 to 17, including 8-year-old Vitaly, who was seriously injured when his family tried to leave Mariupol and turned to be victims of nationalist shelling. Despite the disappointing initial forecasts, today the boy is confidently recovering, delighting his relatives and doctors with such positive dynamics.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee talked to the Head of the Institute, Mr.Valery Afanasyevich Mitish, thanking in his person all the staff for providing highly qualified medical care. The Head of the Investigative Committee of Russia emphasized that this is not the first time when Dr. Roshal’s clinic doctors provide the assistance in treatment of children affected by criminal attacks.

Many children have to pass through complex surgeries and a long recovery period, but the most important thing is that they feel safe now, and this is what gives them strength in the fight against the disease. Even at such a young age, they feel the significance of the provided support and express their sincere gratitude to all people who are not indifferent to their fate.

Wishing the little patients a speedy recovery and presenting memorable gifts, the Head of the Investigative Committee of Russia assured the touched parents that the officers of the Directorate, and doctors, would continue to provide children with quality medical care and psychological support. In addition, A.I. Bastrykin noted that they would be assisted in recreation and education, suggesting that they consider the possibility of entering educational organizations of the Russian Investigative Committee.

The Head of the Committee had a personal conversation with the Research Institute of Emergency Children's Surgery and Traumatology President, Mr. Leonid Mikhailovich Roshal, congratulating him on his birthday and expressing sincere gratitude for his direct participation in the arrived children treatment.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee also visited the wounded servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation undergoing treatment at the Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Academician N.N. Burdenko. The Head of the Committee met with the Head of the Hospital, Mr. Denis Vladimirovich Davydov, and medical personnel, handing over the equipment that is always in demand. Noting the significant contribution to providing assistance to the victims, A.I. Bastrykin awarded the medical nursing staff "For High Citizenship" medals. The injured servicemen, in their turn, were awarded the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation "Valour and Courage" medals. The Head of the Russian Investigative Committee noted how important the contribution of each soldier is in saving the Donbass civilians from the cruel crimes of Ukrainian nationalists, and stressed that all criminal acts will be fundamentally legally evaluated and will not stay unpunished.
