The Investigators of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launch a criminal case on the Russian ambassador attack in Poland

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a criminal case into the attack on the Russian ambassador in Poland.

The investigation established, that on May, 9, 2022 a citizen of Ukraine, Irina Zemlyana together with other unidentified persons, in order to complicate the international relations between Russia and the Republic of Poland, attacked the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Poland S.V. Andreyev, splashing a red liquid on his face and clothes, tearing off his glasses and St.George ribbon, during the wreth-laying ceremony at the memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers in Warsaw.

Investigation classifies these actions as an attack on an internationally protected person, and on their official vehicles, the crime, committed in due to make the international relations complicated, (as it is prescribed in Part.2 Article 360 the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

In accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the receiving State is obliged to treat a diplomatic official with due respect and to take all appropriate measures to prevent any attacks on its person, freedom or dignity.

Attacks on internationally protected persons and on their official vehicles must be strictly prosecuted. The Russian Federation will use all legal and diplomatic mechanisms available due to bring the perpetrators to justice.
