The criminal investigation is finalized on the case of another Ukrainian security official accused of crimes against the civilian population of the Donetsk Peoples’s Republic

The Investigative Committee of Russia has finalized the investigation of a criminal case against the commander of the third self-propelled artillery battery of the self-propelled artillery battalion of the military unit A-2802, Senior Lieutenant Denis Nazarov. He is accused of committing a crime in accordance with the Part 1 of the Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian persons, the use of banned means and methods warfare).

During the investigation, the accused Nazarov fully admitted his guilt and asked for forgiveness for his deeds. The Investigation established, that in violation of requirements stipulated in  Geneva Conventions relating to the protection of victims of international armed conflicts (Geneva, 12.08.1949) and Additional Protocol to it, according to which the civilian population and civilian objects are not be attacked, between February 28 and March 10 of this year, Nazarov repeatedly gave orders to his subordinated military staff to attack the residential buildings and socially significant civilian infrastructure facilities of the settlements located in the Novoazovsky and Kalmiussky rayons of the Donetsk People's Republic. The shelling was carried out with 122 mm high-explosive fragmentation shells from self-propelled artillery guns "Gvozdika".

As a result of such criminal acts, one child died from the wounds, and one local woman was also wounded. In addition, 40 houses were destroyed in 4 settlements. The total cost of the caused damage exceeds 24.8 million rubles.

During the investigation, 42 victims submitted civil claims for damage compensation caused to them, including the compensation for moral suffering and non-pecuniary damage.

Currently, in accordance with the requirements of criminal procedure legislation the defendant and his defender started to study the criminal case files.
