A criminal case is launched against a Ukrainian serviceman, suspected in the shot-execution over a Mariupol civilian

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has launched a criminal case against Mr. Vitaly Katranych - senior sergeant of the A-1035 military unit (74th separate reconnaissance battalion) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is suspected in the committing the crime, prescribed in  Part 1 Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of civilian persons, use of banned means and methods of warfare).

It is established, that violating the requirements stipulated in Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Geneva, 12.08.1949) and Additional Protocol to it, in the Mariupol city Mr. Katranych fired several shots at a civilian from an automatic weapon, before that the mentioned civilian was detained for checking his ID-documents by the Ukrainian servicemen. The man died from the injuries.

Presently, the location of Katranich has been identified, all procedures related to his convoy have been finalized.

A witness of this crime has been identified and questioned, he provided for the details of the crime. During the received information confirmation procedure, the investigators of the Russian Investigative Committee have found the body of the deceased, whose hands were fixed behind with by means of construction clamps. In order to identify him, the biological samples were examined for the molecular genetic research.

The preliminary investigation continues.
