Criminal Cases Have Been Initiated Over the Ukrainian Military Shelling Causing Injuries to Journalists of Russian TV Channels

The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use of prohibited means and methods in an armed conflict), on the facts of shelling by the Ukrainian military of the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as a result of which journalists of Russian TV channels were injured.

According to the investigators, on July 1, 2022, the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations, in pursuance of the criminal orders of their superior commanders, carried out targeted artillery shelling of the city of Donetsk from heavy weapons. During the shelling, one of the shells exploded in the immediate vicinity of the TV Center news crew, as a result of which the news crew cameraman assistant was injured. On July 4, 2022, the Ukrainian military carried out a targeted shelling of the city of Sloviansk with heavy weapons, where the NTV Channel crew was filming a news story. The film crew cameraman was injured as a result of a shell explosion.
The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to record the crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian military formations in the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as identify specific individuals from among them involved in the commission of criminal acts.
