The evidence collected by the investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) was sufficient to convict a 25-year-old man who had previously been repeatedly convicted. He has been found guilty of causing moderate bodily harm to a minor, torturing two minors and murdering a minor (Paragraph c, Part 2, Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Paragraphs a, d, Part 2, Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Paragraph c, Part 2, Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The investigators and the court have established that in the period from March to November 2021, the defendant cohabited with a woman, the mother of boys aged 2 and 4, and lived together with them in an apartment located in a residential building at Magansky Trakt. As the investigators established, during this period the man developed a personal dislike for the children. The defendant systematically beat the children on the head, face and body with his hands, feet, a phone charger cord, the phone itself, a mop and other improvised items. The attacker beat the children with their heads against the wall, forced them to stand facing the wall for a long time.

Between November 6 and 8, 2021, a 2-year-old boy was subjected to another beating. The defendant inflicted multiple blows on the child’s head, being dissatisfied with the fact that the boy was naughty because of the increased body temperature due to a painful condition and did not allow the defendant to watch entertainment websites. The child died from a traumatic brain injury on the evening of November 8, 2021.

Forensic medical experts recorded 30 bodily injuries in the 4-year-old boy and more than 60 injuries in the 2-year-old who died.

The defendant admitted his guilt in full, gave detailed testimony about the circumstances of the crimes committed.

By a court verdict, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison to be served in a strict regime penal colony.

Parental rights of the defendant’s cohabitant, who at the time of the crime had four children, have been restricted. The children have been removed from the family and placed in a specialized children’s institution.

In addition, the investigators have completed the investigation of the criminal case against a former district police officer on charges of negligence. As the investigators have established, the police officer received a report about the beating of the boys, visited the place of residence of the children, but did not take measures to prevent the beating, which led to the tragedy.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia put the criminal cases under control in the Central Office of the IC.
