A Man is sentenced for involvement in extremist organization

Evidence collected by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasian Federal District in cooperation with the Federal Security Service for Stavropolskiy krai and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Stavropolskiy krai was recognized as sufficient to adjudicate a verdict to Mr.Oleg Skidanov. He was found guilty of committing a crime prescribed in Part 2, Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 1.1, Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an organization banned by court's final decision due to its extremist activities, and inducement of other persons into the activities of an extremism).

The investigation established that on October 9, 2020, Mr. Skidanov joined the ranks of the Right Sector, an extremist Ukrainian organization banned by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. He had the intent to become a full member of it and continue to perform the banned activities on the territory of the Russian Federation, pursuing the goal of exacerbating the socio-political situation and destabilizing the constitutional system of the Russian Federation. As a member of the above-mentioned organization, on October 10, 2020, Mr. Skidanov received an order to collect information against law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors and the FSB of Russia, and he was also tasked with finding individuals who share the ideology of the Right Sector organization in order to their subsequent involvement in its activities. Later, between October 17 and 18, 2020, Mr. Skidanov persuaded Mr. Oleg Kharaim and Mr. Vadim Kartashov to join the ranks of the mentioned organization, afterwards they became its full members. The criminal case against Mr. Kartashov is currently being considered by the court, and Mr. Kharaim has been sentenced.

By the verdict, Mr. Skidanov was sentenced to imprisonment for 6 years to be served in a general regime penal colony.
