A verdict is adjudicated to a former member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg

Evidence collected by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was recognized sufficient for sentencing Mr. Roman Koval, a former member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. He was found guilty of committing crimes prescribed in Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (bribery taking).

The investigation and the court established that between 2017-2020 in St. Petersburg, Mr. Koval, acting through an intermediary - his assistant Mr. Andrey Grishin, - received a bribe from a representative of commercial Company in the form of money in the amount of 10.6 million rubles and a car brand "Audi Q7" worth 6.2 million rubles. For his part, he used his official powers to facilitate the allocation of subsidies for the purchase of equipment and materials to the city's five public health budget institutions. Subsequently, state contracts were concluded between the legal entities represented by the bribers and these institutions.

In addition, in 2019, Mr. Koval, through the mediation of Mr. Grishin, received a bribe in the amount of 800 thousand rubles from a representative of Rubin LLC; He, using his powers, for facilitating the allocation of a subsidy for the purchase and installation of elevator equipment to one of the maternity hospitals in St. Petersburg, with which Rubin LLC subsequently signed a state contract.

In order to ensure the confiscation and execution of the court sentence, the car "Audi Q7" received by Mr. Koval as a bribe, as well as the property of the accused was arrested in the total amount of more than 17 million rubles.

By a verdict, Mr. Roman Koval was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony and a fine of 35 million rubles. Earlier, the court sentenced Mr.Grishin to a fine of 1.5 million rubles.
