Within the criminal investigation, the investigators the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation are conducting inspections of detached house suburbs of the Brilyovka village, Khersonskaya oblast and Kievsky raion of Donetsk, which were shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The investigation identified that (breaching the requirements of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of the Civilian Population dated 08/12/1949 and its Additional Protocol, which bans the use of weapons if this could cause excessive loss of life or injury among civilians), officials of the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ordered their subordinates military personnel to shell the Brilyovka village from the Smerch multiple launch rocket system. And officials from among the commanding staff of the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine gave the order to the subordinated military personnel to shell Kievsky rayon of Donetsk from artillery weapons of 155 mm caliber.

According to the mentioned above facts, criminal cases were launched against servicemen of the 59th and 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the crime prescribed in Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use of banned means and methods of warfare).
