By the order of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, a criminal case is launched into the demolition of the monument to soldiers - liberators in Riga

On August 23, in the capital of Latvia, the demolition of the monument to the soldiers of the Soviet Army - the liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the Nazi invaders began. The decision to demolish the monument was taken by the deputies of the Riga City Council, it was announced publicly and it was supported by the mayor of the Latvian capital, Mr. Martins Stakis.

On this fact, a criminal case was launched in the Main Investigative Directorate under the iffense of a crime prescribed in Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Actions to destroy the monument to Soviet soldiers are directed against the interests of the Russian Federation in matters of preserving the historical memory of the activities of the USSR during the Second World War and the decisive role in the victory over Nazism.

Mr. A.I. Bastrykin, Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, instructed the investigators to give a legal assessment to the actions of all those, who took the decision to demolish the monument for their further prosecution.
