A member of the interregional terrorist community "Network" will face court of law

The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has finalized the criminal investigation against Mr. Maxim Ivankin, member of the interregional terrorist community "Network" (banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as a terrorist organization). He is charged with committing a crime prescribed in paragraph "a, b, g", Part 2, Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of two persons serving their their public duty, committed by a group of persons in collusion).

This criminal case was transferred by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia to the Investigators of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for a comprehensive and thorough investigation due to public outcry.

As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that in April 2017, Mr. Ivankin, being a suspect in a criminal case on the illegal sale of drugs, left the Penza city and escaped from the preliminary investigation in Ryazan. Three of his partners on crimes, including Mr. Aleksey Poltavets, escaped together with him, fearing criminal prosecution.

Some time later, in April 2017, two of them - a male and a female - decided to return to Penza and testify incriminating both of them and their accomplices. Wanting to avoid criminal liability, Mr. Ivankin and Mr. Poltavets tricked their partners on crimes, invited them into a forest in Ryazan oblast, and murdered them.

Mr. Poltavets has been put on the international wanted list and arrested in absentia. Mr. Ivankin was previously convicted of participating in a terrorist organization and is currently serving a sentence in prison.

The investigation collected sufficient evidence base, in connection with which the criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to court for consideration on the merits.
