Criminal investigation against members of the terrorist organization Imarat Kavkaz ("The Emirate of Caucasus") is finalized

The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has finalized the criminal investigation against members of the international terrorist organization "The Emirate of Caucasus" (it is recognized as terrorist and banned on the territory of the Russian Federation by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation) Mr. Arbi Bataev, Mr. Adam, Mr. Timur Kodzoev, and Mr. Iriskhan Mereshkov. They are accused of committing crimes prescribed in Part 2, Article 205.5, Part 2, Article 208, Parts 3, 4 Article 222 and Part 4, Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, in an illegal armed formation, illicit trafficking of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices).

According to the investigation, the defendants, participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and an illegal armed formation, between 2020 and 2021 ensured the covert movement of wanted accessories, including the subsequently liquidated Mr. Yusup Bunguev, to the Republic of Ingushetia, across its territory and back. In addition, the defendants kept a house as their secret residence, and also ensured the safety of weapons intended for terrorist activities.

The investigation collected a sufficient evidence base, so the criminal case was submitted for getting the approved indictment and it will be subsequently transferred to court.

At present, the Southern District Military Court continues to trial criminal cases against four defendants who assisted terrorist activities and were assisted by the defendants.
