The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructs to conduct an inspection on the fact of damage to the “Mound of Friendship” in Latvia

Mr. Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee, instructed to conduct an inspection, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, into the fact of damage to the monument "Mound of Friendship" on the territory of the Republic of Latvia.

The memorial plates of the monument were dismantled using heavy equipment at the site under the jurisdiction of Latvia. The memorial site was erected on July 3, 1959 dedicating the memory of the cooperation of the partisan detachments of the Russian, Belarusian and Latvian peoples during the Great Patriotic War.

Such actions are directed against the interests of Russia in the field of preserving the historical memory of the activities of the USSR during the Second World War and the decisive role in the victory over fascism.

The Head of the Investigative Committee instructed the Investigative Officers to organize an investigation into this fact, as well as to request the necessary information from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Based on the results of the inspection, the actions of all involved persons will be legally assessed.
