The Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee instructs the Main Directorate of the Department, in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry, to conduct an inspection in connection with the dismantling of the monument and the destruction of a Fraternal Military Grave in Latvia

From media reports, it became known about the beginning of the dismantling of the monument to Soviet Soldiers-Liberators in the Latvian city of Rezekne. Earlier, the Mayor of the city publicly criticized the actions of the country's Authorities in relation to the monuments to Soviet Soldiers. After the demolition of the monument, its fragments are planned to be sent to the Occupation Museum in Riga. In addition, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Latvia reported that, contrary to numerous promises by Senior Officials of Latvia not to encroach on burial places and military graves, Local Authorities razed a fraternal military grave to the ground in the village of Shkyaune, Kraslava raion.

Mr. Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, instructed to proceed an investigation on the mentioned facts, as well as to request the necessary information from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

A legal assessment will be given to the actions of the persons involved in the incidents within the inspection.
