The Investigative Committee of Russia conducts pre-investigative inspections on the inhuman treatment of Russian prisoners of war by representatives of the Armed Formations of Ukraine

The Russian servicemen, who were returned to the Russian Federation as a result of the exchange of prisoners with the Ukrainian side, told the investigators of the Russian Investigative Committee about the numerous facts of humiliating treatment against them.

One of the servicemen reported that he was taken prisoner by superior enemy forces. The Ukrainian servicemen tied his hands and feet, put a bag over his head and did not take it off for several days. During this time he was beaten. Ukrainian nationalists put a gun to his head and threatened to shoot him and bury him as they were dissatisfied with the answers received to their questions. They fulfilled the last threat by throwing the prisoner to the bottom of the trench and covering it with earth. The threat of deprivation of life was so real that, only after lying in this position for about 5 hours, he realized that he would live.

In addition, Russian servicemen tell investigators about such facts undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions. All of them contain examples of the way the representatives of Ukraine break the requirements of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which ban ill-treatment, torture and humiliation.

Officers of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation will give a legal assessment of each case within the ongoing pre-investigative inspections.
