The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia meets with the Professor of St Petersburg University Mr. Georgy Kirillovich Tolstoy

Mr. Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, met with Soviet and Russian Legal Scholar, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor of St. Petersburg State University Mr. Georgy Kirillovich Tolstoy.

The meeting was attended by Mr. A.D. Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg and Rector of St. Petersburg State University Mr. N.M. Kropachev.

Mr. Georgy Kirillovich was awarded a high state award - the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, which was awarded to him by Decree of the President of Russia back in September 2022 in honor of his 95th birthday. After conferring this award, Mr. Georgy Kirillovich became a full holder of the Order.

Mr. A.I. Bastrykin, Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, sincerely congratulated his former teacher, handing Mr. G.K. Tolstoy a Departmental Medal "For High Citizenship" and a memorable gift in the form of the Bronze Horseman. The Head of the Russian Investigative Committee noted that Mr. Georgy Kirillovich is the pride of our country and St. Petersburg - the city of military, scientific and cultural glory. He added that Mr. Georgy Kirillovich's contribution to science cannot be overestimated, especially his contribution to civil law. And the concepts and ideas developed by him were reflected in the current legislation and served as the foundation for the creation of new scientific directions. More than one generation of lawyers grew up on his study-books. Mr. G.K. Tolstoy sincerely thanked for the congratulations, noting that he was going to continue to benefit the country and continue to work in the field of legislation. Mr. A.I. Bastrykin and Mr. G.K. Tolstoy discussed various aspects of jurisprudence, exchanged views on topical issues.

All who wre present also congratulated Mr. Georgy Kirillovich on another significant date - this year marks 50 years since he is a Professor at the Department of Civil Law.

Mr. Georgy Kirillovich is rightly called the legend of jurisprudence. He went through a difficult life path, was left an orphan early, but always had a penchant for science and graduated with honors marked by a gold medal from school. In the victorious 1945, he entered the Law Faculty of the Leningrad State University, then - he entered graduate school and remained to work within the walls of the alma mater as a teacher, raising more than one generation of professional lawyers. Students and graduates call him a brilliant lecturer, he taught classes attended by future prominent statesmen. He was a teacher of two presidents of Russia - Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Mr. Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev.

Mr. Georgy Kirillovich is the author of more than 200 scientific works, including 10 monographs, which reflect the whole era of the national development of our country, the main stages of its formation. Mr. Georgy Kirillovich is also the author of literary compositions, including poems, which he dedicates to the history of the Fatherland, jurisprudence, and colleagues in the legislative field.

All people speak of Mr. Georgy Kirillovich as a very insightful person who always has his own opinions about current events. But the main qualities for which he is valued by colleagues and students are his integrity, honesty and painstaking work for the good of the Fatherland.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Russian Investigative Committee wished the professor health and well-being.
