Criminal case is launched on the shelling of a medical institution in Donetsk

The Investigative Committee of Russia launched a criminal case against servicemen of the 110th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to investigation, on December 18, 2022, servicemen of the 110th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Donetsk Clinical Territorial Medical Association (former Kalinin Hospital), located in Kalininsky raion of the Donetsk city, these actions were carried out contrary to the requirements of the Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Population in time of war and its Additional Protocol, which bans the use of weapons if this could cause excessive loss of life or injury to civilians.

As a result of the mentioned criminal act, two hospital buildings were damaged. The greatest destruction was done to two hospital rooms, where the civilians were placed at the time of the shelling. Despite prompt medical assistance, the victim, who received severe shrapnel wounds, died. According to the medical staff, the other victims’ state of health is stable.

Investigators conducted an inspection of the scene; the eyewitnesses were questioned about the circumstances of the incident. Measures are being taken to identify the persons involved in the commission of the crime.
