A Resident Of Oryol Oblast Is Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Murdering Children And Other Crimes

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was recognized by the court as sufficient for sentencing Mr. Shavkat Shayakhmedov, resident of Oryol Oblast. He was found guilty of committing crimes prescribed in "a", "c", "j" Part 2, Article 105, Part 3,4, Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder; sexual assault considering the helpless state of the victim, committed against a person under the age of fourteen).

In June 2021, Ms.Victoria Gnedova, a young girl, disappeared in Oryol Oblast. She left home and did not return back; Activists of Liza Alert search squad for Oryol Oblast, together with Law Enforcement Agencies, also participated in the search for the child. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia transferred this criminal case to the investigators of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for a comprehensive and thorough investigation. Forensic specialists of the Main Forensic Directorate (Forensic Center) of the Russian Investigative Committee left for the scene. Soon a suspect in the commission of this crime was identified and detained as a result of the clear and well-coordinated work of the investigative-operational group of the Investigative Committee of Russia; it turned out to be Mr. Shavkat Shayakhmedov, 61-year-old neighbor of the family of the deceased girl. He gave detailed testimony about the circumstances of the crime he committed and indicated the location of the body - it was buried in the basement of an apartment building, where Mr. Shayakhmedov and the victim lived.

Investigators of the Main Directorate received information about the man's involvement in other especially serious crimes at the same area while detecting Mrs. Victoria Gnedova's circumstances of the murder; the mentioned crimes remained unsolved for a long time. The confirming evidence data was obtained as a result of well-planned investigative actions and joint operational-search activities of the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

It was established that an 11-year-old boy disappeared in July 2005 in the village of Kazar, Zalegoshchensky raion, Oryol Oblast. During the verification information activities, a set of investigative and operational measures was carried out with Mr. Shayakhmedov, where he gave detailed testimony about the circumstances of the crime he had committed and indicated the location of the body. The remains, as well as items of clothing of the missing child, were discovered as a result of an inspection of the area with the involvement of volunteers. The defendant explained that 16 years ago, the child went with him to the forest for mushrooms, where a man committed a crime against his sexual integrity and strangled him.

It was also established that in April 2000 Mr. Shayakhmedov committed a sexual offense against a 6-year-old boy, after which he strangled him, and in September 2003 he killed a 32-year-old woman. It became known that the accused did not know the woman and the 6-year-old child before. In addition, in 2005 and 2017, Mr. Shayakhmedov committed crimes against the sexual integrity of three underage girls.

By a verdict, Mr. Shayakhmedov was sentenced to life imprisonment.
