The head of the department ordered a report on the progress of the investigation into the facts of armed attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala

On June 23, 2024, members of an organized criminal group carried out armed attacks on religious buildings located in Makhachkala and Derbent. In addition, the accomplices fired at law enforcement officers.

Based on these facts, the investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan are investigating a criminal case under clause "b" of Part 3 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the RF (terrorist act), Part 4 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the RF (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation of firearms), and clauses "a", "b" of Part 4 of Article 226 of the Criminal Code of the RF (theft of firearms).

According to preliminary data, 15 law enforcement officers and 4 civilians, including an Orthodox priest, have been killed.

In the course of suppressing criminal activities, 5 individuals involved in committing armed attacks were eliminated. Their identities have been established.

Furthermore, the investigation is identifying other individuals involved in commiting unlawful acts.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed Dmitry Belyaev, the head of the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan, to submit a report on the initial investigative actions taken.

The progress of the investigation has been placed under the control of the central office of the department.
