The investigative authorities of the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for Moscow have initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the RF (violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion).

According to the investigation, on July 12, 2024, a man trampled on a Christian cross. He also recorded his actions on video, which was streamed live on an internet portal. The suspect was promptly identified and arrested.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, A.I. Bastrykin, instructed the head of the Main Investigation Department for Moscow, A.A. Strizhov, to submit a report on the progress of the criminal case investigation and the established circumstances.

The execution of the instruction has been placed under the control of the central office of the department.
