The evidence gathered by the Investigative Committee has been deemed sufficient by the court to convict Sergey Rudik, a sapper of the 1st Sniper Detachment of the Special Forces Sniper Group of the "Azov" nationalist association, which is banned in the Russian Federation. He has been found guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 356, and clause "a" of Part 4 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the RF (cruel treatment of civilians; robbery committed with the threat of violence dangerous to life and health, with the use of weapons, by an organized group).
The investigation and the court have established that in March 2022, Rudik, along with his comrades, following the general criminal plan of the organized group and acting on orders from the highest Ukrainian leadership, were on combat duty to block and hold territory in the area of Nakhimov Avenue in Mariupol, DPR. Rudik received an illegal order from his superiors to seize a vehicle from civilians. Seeing a white car moving near 204 Nakhimov Avenue, Rudik, along with other Ukrainian soldiers armed with Kalashnikov rifles, stopped the vehicle and attacked two unarmed men inside who were not involved in the armed conflict. The attackers fired several shots into the air, and then, pointing their weapons at the civilians, threatened to use them and forced the men to leave the car. Rudik and his comrades then fled the scene with the stolen property, using it at their own discretion.
Through their criminal actions, the members of the organized group caused significant property damage to the victim.
During the preliminary investigation, Rudik fully admitted his guilt.
The court sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment to be served in a high-security correctional colony.
