Former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Pavel Popov has been charged

Investigators from the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation have charged former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Pavel Popov with committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the RF.

The investigation has established that Pavel Popov with Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Innovative Development of the Russian Ministry of Defense Vladimir Shesterov, Director of the Military-Patriotic Park of Culture and Recreation "Patriot" Vyacheslav Akhmedov, and other individuals, acting as part of an organized group, used deception and abuse of trust to embezzle 30 million rubles of budgetary funds. These funds had been allocated to support the activities and functioning of the Military-Patriotic Park of Culture and Recreation "Patriot" and “Patriot” Congress and Exhibition Center.

Popov denies the charges against him.

Several co-defendants are cooperating with the investigation and providing incriminating testimonies.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
