A criminal case against Ukrainian militants involved in the destruction of a cultural heritage site in the Kursk region was launched

The Main Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has initiated a criminal case on charges of crimes under Part 3 of Article 30, and clauses “a,” “e,” “g,” and “l” of Part 2 of Article 105 (attempted murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group in a publicly dangerous way out of political and ideological hatred), clauses “a” and “v” of Part 2 of Article 205 (terrorist act), Part 4 of Article 222, Part 4 of Article 221.1, Part 4 of Article 222.2 (illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of firearms and large-caliber firearms, as well as explosive devices committed by an organized group), Part 3 of Article. 322 (illegal crossing of the State border of the Russian Federation committed by an organized group) and Part 1 of Article 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (destruction of cultural heritage sites (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation) against militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as other Ukrainian paramilitary groups and members of mercenary formations.

It was established that in early October 2024, these individuals used artillery systems, mortars, and multiple rocket launch systems to fire upon the cultural heritage site “The I.T. Viktorov Estate Ensemble ‘Palace for the Beloved’” in the village of Safonovka, Korenovsky District, Kursk Region.

As a result of these criminal actions, the cultural heritage site, along with the buildings and structures on its grounds, sustained damage, including partial destruction.

During the preliminary investigation, all members of the Ukrainian armed formations involved in these crimes will be identified and held accountable as provided by law.
