Alexander Bastrykin hods a session with the operational headquarters on the criminal investigation into Tu-154 plane crash near Smolensk


Today, Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, has held a session with the operational headquarters at the Polish President aircraft crash scene, where he has heard the recent results of a criminal investigation.

The session was attended by investigators and criminologists of the Investigative Committee, the experts of the Interstate Aviation Committee, the Polish investigators and prosecutors.

Since the beginning of the investigation hundreds of fragments of the crashed plane, victims’ belongings and other items relevant to the investigation have been withdrawn from the scene. Necessary forensic examinations have been assigned and are being carried out. At the moment, the scene examination continues. Investigative team has been instructed properly on further investigation.

In addition, it was pointed out during the session that the investigation at the scene is carried out in close cooperation with representatives of the Polish Military Prosecutor’s Office.

Alexander Bastrykin reported the first results of the investigation to Vladimir Putin, the Chairman of the State Committee for determining the causes of Tu-154 crash.
