Investigation into Magnitsky's death is practically completed

The General Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee is continuing the investigation into the death of Sergey Magnitsky. The investigation has determined the direct cause-effect relation between lack of medical attendance to Magnitsky in Moscow pre-trial prison №2 and grave consequences afterwards.

On this ground the doctor of this pre-trial prison Larisa Litvinova has been charged with the crime under part 2, article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code (reckless homicide by neglecting to render professional care). In addition, Dmitri Kratov, former medical deputy head at the pre-trial prison and Litvinova’s superior, has been charged with the crime stipulated by part 2, article 293 of the Criminal Code (negligence).

The investigation is practically completed. Victims and their representatives, as well as the accused and their defenders are going to be familiarized with the files, but the fact that Kratov and Litvinova are currently in hospital postpones this procedure. The investigation is checking circumstances of detection and seriousness of their illnesses. The investigation is continued. The term for preliminary investigation is extended until 24 November 2011.
