Andrei Lugovoi is recognized a victim in Litvinenko murder and Kovtun attempted murder

The Central Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee continues investigation into the murder of Alexander Litvinenko and attempted murder of Dmitry Kovtun, committed in publicly dangerous way in the territory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (paragraph «е», part 2 of article 105, part 3 of article 30 and paragraphs «а» and «е», part 2 of article 105 of the Russian criminal Code). The criminal case was opened on December 6, 2006.

During the investigation it was proved that the Russian citizen Andrei Lugovoi had been poisoned with polonium-210 during his contact with Litvinenko in October-November 2006 in London.

Due to this fact, the case was opened on November 29, 2011, against unknown persons who had committed a crime against A. Lugovoi – attempted murder of two and more persons committed in publicly dangerous way in the territory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (part 3 of article 30 and paragraphs «а» and «е», part 2 of article 105 of the Russian criminal Code).

This case was incorporated with the one into Litvinenko murder and Kovtun attempted murder.

In line with the legal-procedural law of the RF and under article 42 of the Russian Legal-Procedural Code, D. Kovtun and A. Lugovoi were acknowledged as victims in the case.

At present, investigations are under way to determine the persons involved in a varying degree in organization and committing of the above crime against the Russian citizens.
