Investigation launched into explosions at Mulino firing range

Military Investigation Department of the RF Investigative Committee for Mulinsky garrison launched a criminal case into an explosion at 252 firing range, a crime under part 3 of article 349 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of the rules for handling arms and hazardous materials entailing by negligence the death of two or more persons).

It has been found, that today at about 2:40 p.m. Moscow time, an ammunition round detonated uncontrollably while being relocated from the automobile to the ground, killing 5 soldiers on the spot and 1 soldier died later in the hospital. 3 more soldiers are in hospitals with missile wounds. All the killed and injured are conscripts.

At present, military investigators are continuing working on the scene. They are finding out the causes of the explosions, personalities of victims and an injured soldier, questioning witnesses of the incident, withdrawing documentation regulating utilization of ammunition from the military unit. Forensic and medical examinations are ordered.

Experienced investigators and criminologists of the Military Investigation Department of the RF Investigative Committee for Western Military district are sent to assist the investigation.
