Two more cases opened in Vologda region against prisoner escaped from colony on helicopter

Investigative bodies of the RF Investigative Committee for Vologda Region are continuing to investigate a case into aircraft hi-jacking and prisoner’s escape from the colony.

The investigation has launched two more cases against Alexey Shestakov. He is suspected of the crimes under part 1 of article 318 of the RF Criminal Code (use of violence against a representative of the authority) and part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 166 (attempted hi-jack of a vehicle).

According to the investigation, on 22 March 2012 a car was stopped on approach the town of Gryazovets by local police forces. The car was driven by Alexey Shestakov who earlier had escaped from penal colony №17 in the village Sheksna of Vologda region. The prisoner threatened the police to blow them up with grenades which were fakes. After that, wishing to flee and being armed with airgun pistol, Shestakov tried to seize UAZ Patriot automobile where a driver and his son were at the moment. He aimed the gun at them and started to open the door of the car, but failed and was detained by the police.

At present, investigative actions are being carried out to establish all circumstances of the crime. The criminal investigation is underway.
