On 5 May 2012, at about 2 p.m. a 9-year old Andrey Churbanov fell into a fountain in Bulvar Entuziastov in Naberezhnye Chelny. A 12-year old Danil Sadykov rushed into water to save the boy. At that moment both of them were struck by an electric discharge. From the pool with 20 cm of water the boys were pulled out by policemen passing nearby. As the result of the electric discharge Danil Sadykov died in an emergency hospital. The second boy was delivered to intensive care department with brain edema and now he is staying at neurological department in children hospital №2 due to improvement of his condition. The investigative bodies of the Russian Investigative Committee in the Republic of Tatarstan have initiated a criminal case over a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code (negligent homicide owing to the improper discharge by a person of his professional duties).

During a preliminary investigation it was found that the fountain was put into operation in 2007 and is on a payroll of OAO Gorzelenkhoz (Open Corporation). The investigators withdrew from the organization documents which will be carefully examined. They also held an additional examination of the place involving a state inspector of Rostekhnadzor and a chief engineer of the republican electric lab, during which necessary objects were collected from the bowl of B-2 fountain. During the examination, the specialists found malfunctions committed during the mounting of electric wiring. During the investigation all persons, including those of control bodies, responsible for construction and implementation of the fountain will be identified. The leadership of the Investigative Committee controls the investigation of this case. The death of the child will not go unpunished, all the guilty ones will be identified and arraigned.

Today, representatives of the Investigative Committee on instructions of Alexander Bastrykin will meet with class mates of the heroic Danil Sadykov in Naberezhnye Chelny and will lay a wreath and flowers on his grave. They also plan to visit Andrey Churbanov in hospital.

The life of Danil Sadykov broke at its beginning. But in his 12 years he was a real Patriot and a Person with a capital P. His family and close friends are suffering boundless grief and sorrow, but we, too, mourn with them. The death of the boy who could have made a lot of good in his life is a wordless reproach for us, the adults. We couldn’t save this wonderful person. Not every adult person is capable of such brave step to save the other. But Danil was, he made a heroic deed – saved a 9-year old boy at the expense of his own life.

This is not the first example of the selflessness of Russian children, which arouses the deepest respect. The youngest Hero of Russia was only 7, when he lost his life protecting his older sister from a rapist. It is important to keep these examples of bravery and heroism of children in our memory. Therefore Alexander Bastrykin will ask the leadership of the country to award Danil Sadykov with the state award posthumously.
