Criminal case opened in St Petersburg over Russian An-30 accident in Czech Republic


Military Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee in Western military district has opened a criminal case over accident occurred with An-30 of military unit 62632 “B”, on signs of crime under article 351 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (violation of the rules for flights and training for them).

According to the investigators, today, the Russian jet skidded off the runway and caught fire after it suffered a malfunction of front landing gear as it was landing at Chaslov airport. At the moment of the mishap the jet, which had been carrying out several flights in the Czech Republic within the framework of observation mission “Open sky”, was carrying 14 Russian militants and 9 NATO soldiers. According to preliminary data, no one was killed. 2 Russians suffered bad thermal burns and were taken to hospital. The rest of passengers sustained numerous bruises and injuries.

At the moment, it is being negotiated whether to send military investigators to the accident scene. The investigation is under special control of the Main Military Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee.
