The Central Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case against Boris Berezovsky over the placement on the Internet in April 2012 his statements calling for riots – a crime under part 3 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code.

The contents of the statement shows that Berezovsky publicly called on Russian citizens to participate in mass disorder with violence; namely, to hold mass illegal actions in public places in Moscow, in order to prevent the inauguration of the legitimately elected Russian President, and his entry to the Kremlin on May 7, he promised to give money reward for the president’s detainment.

In addition, the Central Investigative Department has initiated the second case over crime under part 2 of article 212, namely over his publishing of an open letter for those not born in the USSR on Ekho Moskvy website on 1 February 2012. In this letter Berezovsky publicly called for mass riots, namely to violently resist the representatives of authority in order to prevent RF presidential elections.

The two cases are united in one file. The investigation operations are underway to collect and consolidate the evidence of the crime.
