Meeting in Russian Investigative Committee with Polish Military Prosecutor General and investigation operations with participation of Polish prosecutors over case of plane crash in Smolensk in 2010

A meeting between acting Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Vasily Piskarev and a group of Poland’s prosecutors led by Deputy General Prosecutor – Military prosecutor General of Poland Jerzy Artymiak took place in the Russia’s Investigative Committee. The meeting was attended by the leaders of Investigative Committee and investigators, probing into the Russian criminal case over a Tu-154M plane with Polish delegation led by the Poland’s President on board crashing on 10 April 2010 near Smolensk.

During the meeting the parties discussed the procedural questions of transferring of plane’s fragments to the Polish side on the completion of the investigation. The possibility of arrival in the near future of Polish specialists in the Smolensk region was determined to decide on the way of fragments transportation to Poland. A number of questions were reconciled as to the cooperation of law enforcement bodies of the two countries in requesting legal assistance over this criminal case.

The Investigative Committee announced that it had no objection as to construction of a memorial on the place of the tragedy.

The possibility was reconciled as well of the Polish specialists’ arrival in September of 2012 to be present during additional questioning of 11 witnesses from among the militants participated in organization and acceptance of special Polish airplanes on 10 April 2010 at Smolensk Severny airfield.

On 20 June 2012 satellite communication devices found on the place of the crash were examined in the presence of Polish prosecutors and with the participation of the specialists.
