In Moscow region former Commander of Special Purpose Troops (Air-to-air defense) suspected of ecological damage of 8 billion rubles

Military investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case against former Commander of Special Purpose Command Troops (Air-to-air defense) Colonel General in reserve Yuri Solovyov. He is suspected of a crime under paragraph “c” of part 3 of article 286 of the RF Criminal Code (exceeding official powers with the infliction of grave consequences).

According to investigators, Solovyov, without proper official powers, concluded agreements with a commercial firm on allegedly revegetation of ground in the territory of military unit in Solnechnogorsky district of the Moscow region. But in reality the ground was given to the firs to be used as a junkyard for solid domestic waste. Over 6 years of Solovyov’s power the territory of the junkyard grew fivefold – from 4 to 20 ha. The ecological damage estimated by the specialists is more than 8 billion rubles.

At present investigation operations are under way to establish all circumstances of the incident. The investigation is to be continued.
