In Volgograd region criminal case initiated over murder of Svetloyarksy district head

On 29 June 2012, at about 4:30 p.m. Nikolai Krutov, Head of Svetloyarksy district of the Volgograd region was shot dead in his office. The Volgograd region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee started a criminal case over signs of a crime under part 1 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code (murder).

Investigators assume that a 63-year-old local resident came to the office of district head and made 5 aimed shots at the official from Makarov gun. The victim died of wounds on the spot. After committing the crime the suspect immediately set off for the district division of the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee and informed about the incident, giving away the gun and cartridges. According to the man, the reason for murder was a systematic extortion of money by Krutov from the suspect.

At the moment an investigation task force is working at the scene of the crime. Urgent measures are being taken to establish all circumstances of the crime.
