On 20 July 2012, unknown persons attacked a Chairman pf Myasnikivsky district court Samvel Manukyan and his wife in their house in the village of Chaltyr of Rostov Region. Manukyan was shot, and died later in spite of medical help. Rostov Region investigating bodies of Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over crimes under part 3 of article 30, paragraph “h” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder attended by robbery), paragraph “c” of part 4 of article 162 (robbery committed with the infliction of major damage to the victim's health) and part 2 of article 222 of RF Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or bearing of firearms committed by a group of persons).
According to investigators on 20 July about 3 a.m. 4 unknown persons in masks broke through windows into a private house in Chaltyr village of Rostov Region. Manukyan, having heard noises, went down from the second floor, saw the men and took measures to prevent a crime. The suspects shot him five times at least and wounding 2 times, then they fled the place on the Manukyan’s car. The victim in grave condition was delivered to the hospital where died.
A search and investigation group is working at the scene. A number of necessary investigative operations are under way to establish all circumstances of the incident. Investigators are considering several versions of the crime including his professional activity. Investigation is to be continued.
