On the progress of the criminal investigation of “Kolskaya” floating drilling unit sinking

The Far Eastern Investigation Directorate in Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation continues investigation of the criminal case of sinking of “Kolskaya” self-elevating floating drilling unit in Sakhalin. A criminal case was launched under Part 3 of Art.263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety and operation of maritime transport rules, resulted in the death by negligence of two or more persons).

The investigators of this case had to work in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Murmansk. Investigative actions continue to be carried out in the Primorsk and Khabarovsk territories, Magadan and Sakhalin regions.

The main task at this stage the investigation was to establish all the details of preparatory work for towing the platform in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk, to determine the scope of persons responsible for coordination and control of towing.

The investigators questioned the experts of the General Directorate and the Murmansk branch of the Russian Marine Registry of Shipping, the employees of "Arcticmorneftegasrazvedka", representatives of "SOGAZ" insurance company.

Agreement was made with one of the commercial organizations on the use of the remote-control submersible craft “TRITON” produced in UK in 2012 for the examination of the sunken drilling unit. The craft can submerge up to 3 thousand meters.

In addition, the investigating authorities are carrying out work on the submission of documents to the courts of several regions of the Russian Federation. These documents are necessary for consideration on the applications to recognize the “Kolskaya” crew members as dead. They are listed as missing at present.

The criminal investigation continues.
