Investigators additionally qualify suicide bombing in Ingushetia on 19 August as terrorist attack

Republic of Ingushetia investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have additionally qualified actions of unknown persons who committed suicide bombing at the funerals of the republican policeman as a crime under paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 205 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (explosion to intimidate people and cause considerable property damage aimed to influence decision-making by the authority involving death of people).

According to investigators, on 18 August 2012 in the yard of an apartment building on Oskanova Street in the city of Malgobek unknown people opened fire from 7.62 and 5.45 mm automatic firearms on VAZ-2107 car with the district police officer of Malgobeksky district Department of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Ilez Korigov, 26 inside. He died in a hospital of sustained gun wounds.

Them, the unknown persons knowing that the Korigov’s funeral will be attended by a lot of policemen, representatives of the authority and civilians, trained a person who had agreed to set off a home-made explosive device stuck to his body. On 19 August 2012, at about 9:40 a.m. in the village of Sagopshi of Malgobeksky district, in the territory of a household where the Korigov’s funerals were taking place, a suicide bomber set off an unknown explosive device. The blast killed 7 policemen, 12 policemen and 3 civilians were hospitalized with wounds of different severity. Cars and houses near the crime scene were heavily damaged. Investigating bodies initiated a criminal case on signs of crimes under article 317 (encroachment on lives of law enforcement officials), paragraph “f” of part 2 of article 105 (murder of two or more persons committed by a generally dangerous method), part 2 of article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal handling of firearms).

At present search and investigation operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime. Investigation is to be continued.
