Members of organized criminal group Manakh terrorizing businessmen in Gus-Khrustalny for a number of years convicted in Vladimir Region

The court has found the evidence collected by Vladimir Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict a leader of the criminal group Manakh Oleg Manakhov, 43, and a member of the group Viktor Feoktistov, 42. They were found guilty of z crime under paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 163 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (extortion committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy). Feoktistov was also convicted for forcing a victim to give false testimonies and evade testimonies combined with threat of murder (part 3 of article 309).

Investigation and court have found that in April 2003 Manakhov, threatening with destruction of property and physical violence, demanded from a local businesswoman to give him 30 thousand rubles each month as a pay for protection against unlawful encroachments of other persons. Considering the personality of Monakhov, who had previous police records for murder, the businesswoman fearing for her health and life, and those of her family, had to obey Monakhov’s illegal demands. During 2003 she gave him about 100 thousand rubles. In 2010 Manakhov and Feoktistov make the same demands to another local businessman.

During the investigation Feoktistov tried to escape the prosecution and threatening with murder demanded from the victim to retract the exposing testimonies.

Court sentenced Manakhov to 5 years in a maximum-security penal colony, Feoktistov – to 3 years in a penal colony of minimum security. In addition, as a supplementary penalty the convicts were fined with 150 thousand rubles each.
