Criminal inquiry launched into killing of famous Islamic scholar in Dagestan

Today in the village of Chirkey, Buynaksky district, at about 4 p.m. an unknown woman came in the home of the famous Islamic scholar Said Afandi Atsaev (Sheikh Said Afandi) and set off a hand-made explosive device. The blast killed 8 people: Afandi Atsaev, 6 other people who stood near him, and the woman bomber.

The Dagestan Republic investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case over a crime under paragraphs “a”, “f” of part 2 of article 105 (murder of two or more persons committed by a generally dangerous method) and part 1 of article 222 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code (illegal manufacture of ammunition).

Currently investigators are examining the crime scene and identifying the suicide bomber. Search and investigation operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime.
