The number of reported crimes of corruption has increased significantly in the current year

In the course of the board meeting to discuss the operational support of the preliminary investigation of criminal cases by bodies conducting search and investigation operations, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, noted that this year the number of corruption-related crimes has increased.

"I think that the most important area of cooperation today is to fight against corruption in governmental authorities, where it is the most dangerous," - the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia said.

The positive dynamics in this field are indicated by the fact that this year (8 months in 2012), despite the general decrease (6%) in crime, the number of reported crimes of corruption was more than 40 000. 7 857 cases of bribery were revealed.

In the first half of 2012 15 852 criminal cases on crimes of corruption have been in the proceedings, which is by 5 000 more than in the same period last year (10 451).

In collaboration with the operational units of the FSB and the Russian Interior Ministry, as well as the regulatory and supervisory authorities, last year, the Investigative Committee suppressed the activity of 53 organized criminal groups of corruption, which is twice more than in 2010 (28). During the 6 months of this year the activities of 18 such groups and 4 criminal associations have been suppressed. Criminal cases against 308 persons with special legal status have been completed and sent to court.

The interagency investigative and working groups composed of representatives of the anti-corruption law enforcement units acting on a permanent basis in most of the regions of the Russian Federation have shown their efficiency.

It was noted at the board meeting that the proportion of the unsolved criminal cases of corruption is generally decreasing in Russia (- 1.5%).

The decent results in this area have been achieved by the investigators in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the Republics of Mordovia and Ingushetia, in the Kostroma and Tver regions.
