Suspects of killing Alexander Viktorov, rector of Saint-Petersburg State University of Service and Economics, identified and detained

Leningrad Region Investigations Department of the Russian Investigative Committee together with operational divisions of Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs have identified and detained three suspects of the murder of Alexander Viktorov, rector of Saint-Petersburg State University of Service and Economics. They are Kemerovo Region native born in 1974 and two residents of Saint-Petersburg.

According to investigators, they are perpetrators. Investigators established that the three suspects, whose names are not disclosed in the interests of the investigation, received through a mediator an order to kill Alexander Viktorov. During two weeks hitmen, having found the victim’s place of residence, studies his schedule, schemes of his movements and carefully plotted the crime which they committed on 5 September in the town of Vsevolzhsk. According to preliminary data the motive of the crime was commercial activity of the University headed by Alexander Viktorov.

At present investigators are establishing other persons involved: mediators, organizers and contractors. Investigation is to be continued.
