Investigation of a criminal case against former Head of North-Western Territorial Directorate of the Federal Fishing Agency completed

North-Western Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has completed investigating a criminal case against former Head of North-Western Territorial Directorate of the Federal Fishing Agency Sergey Muravyov. He is charged with crimes under article 290 (bribery-taking on a grand scale), part 1 of article 285 (abuse of official powers) and part 3 of article 327 of the RF Criminal Code (use of forged documents).

According to investigators, in 2009, Muravyov to take the top official position submitted to the Federal Fishing Agency a work record card with false information about his 5-year-long record of service and was accordingly illegally appointed as Head of North-Western Territorial Directorate of the Federal Fishing Agency.

In the period between 2010 and 2011 Muravyov forced his subordinates to dismiss the positions of heads of territorial departments of Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Region Directorate, and those of Republic of Karelia, Novgorod, Pskov and Vologda Regions. On the vacant positions Muravyov, for bribes and in violation of the laws, appointed the persons without any work experience in the area of fishing control and without necessary skills. The investigators believe that the accused received 26 million as bribes.

The investigators have collected enough evidence and the criminal case with the indictment approved by the Deputy Prosecutor General will be in the near future sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
