In Moscow investigation of Yuri Budanov murder completed

Moscow investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have completed investigating a criminal case Yusup Temerkhanov charged with a crime under paragraph “i” of part 2 of article 105 (murder motivated by hatred and enmity against a social group) and part 1 of article 222 of the RF Criminal Code (illegal handling of firearms).

According to investigators, on 10 June 2011, around 12:00 at the moment when Yuri Budanov was leaving a notary in Komsomolsky Prospekt Temerkhanov shot at him 8 times from a pistol. The victim died on the spot. After the murder Temerkhanov escaped on a Misubishi Lancer and later burned down the car hoping that all the evidenc of his involvement in the crime would be destroyed by the fire. However, the fire was timely extinguished. As a result the investigators found and seized a lot of objects, including those having DNA traces on them which helped to identify the suspect.

The investigators believe that Temerkhanov thought that the militant was involved in illegal actions connected with the murder of his father in 2000 during counterterrorist operations in Chechen Republic and decided to kill the militant. Temerkhanov chose to kill Budanov because he was a former commander of 160th guard tank regiment whose name became notorious in connection with the murder of a Chechen girl he committed in 2000.

The investigators have collected enough evidence and the case is forwarded to the prosecutor to approve the indictment and later to the court to be tried on the merits
