The Orenburg Garrison Military Investigations Department of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case over a blast at an ammunition depot in the territory of military unit 02068 located in the village of Pervomaysly, Orenburgsky district of the Orenburg Region, on the signs of a crime under part 1 of article 349 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of the rules for handing arms or objects of increased hazard).

It has been preliminarily established that on 9 October current year during handling operations related to preparing the ammunition for utilization the shells exploded.

An investigating group consisting of the officers of the Military Investigations Department and Criminalistics Department of the Central Military District Military Investigations Department of the Investigative Committee arrived at the scene immediately.

Information about victims and damages is being verified.

At present the witnesses and precise circumstances of the crime are being established. According to the command 4,000 tons of shells exploded, among them: 1,379 tons – 100 mm shells, 400 tons – air bombs, 2,300 tons – 280 mm Uragan missiles. It is known that for the moment the explosions have stopped. The investigating group will start examining the scene on permission from the sappers. Investigation is to be continued.
