Criminal investigation launched in Nizhny Novgorod Region into negligence entailing four convicts escape from detention

The Nizhny Novgorod Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into negligence entailing escape of the convicts from detention containing signs of z crime under part 1 of article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 25 July 2013, four convicts – three men and a woman escaped from a special vehicle while being transported in the village of Krutoy Maydan, Vadsky district, Nizhny Novgorod Region. All of them had been convicted of grave or especially grave crimes and sentenced to long terms in prison. When a police officer opened a compartment with five convicts inside, four of them attacked him, got out of the vehicle and got into a VAZ 2107 standing near. They headed for Nizhny Novgorod. Investigators found the car, which the convicts used to escape. The driver told that he dropped the fugitives near the village of Kriushi, Arzamassky district. The driver is being checked if he helped the fugitives to escape.

Investigators are checking the circumstances in which the police officers opened the compartment with the convicts. they are also looking into the requirements to the transportation of the convicts were violated by the police officers of the detention center of Dalnekonstantinovsky district and whether these violations led to another crime - escape of the convicts from detention.

On of the fugitives has been caught in Arzamassky district. The rest of the fugitives are being looked for. Investigation is ongoing.
