Criminal case launched in Sverdlovsk Region over kidnapping of police trainee

On 31 August 2013, about 1:30 AM, there was a conflict in Koremin Street in the city of Yekaterinburg between two police trainees of a detention center of Yekaterinburg Office of the Russian Interior Ministry on one part and two unidentified men on the other. During the conflict one of the unknown men took from his car an object resembling a trauma gun and shot in the leg of one of the trainees, 23, after that the two men dragged him inside the car and took away. It should be noted that the second trainee was also injured, but managed to break away from the kidnappers, who wanted to kidnap him as well, and ran away. He reported the incident to law enforcement. The Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal case into the fact over signs of a crime under paragraph “d” of part 2 of article 126 of the RF Criminal Code (kidnapping committed using weapons or objects used as weapons).

The same day, about 3 PM, the local fishermen found the body of the kidnapped police trainee in Elmash micro-district, in the woods 2 km away from the baths in Norilskaya Street. The external examination revealed a head trauma. An investigating group of investigators of the regional investigations directorate and a criminologist, police operative agents, a forensic medical expert and forensic expert immediately headed for the scene.

At present a number of necessary investigating and search operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime and consolidate the evidence. The crime scene is being investigated, witnesses are being questioned, a number of necessary expert examinations have been fixed. All possible measures are being taken to identify the suspects and hold them on hot scent. Following the results of the crime scene examination and other investigating operations it will be decided whether to launch a criminal case over a murder entailing kidnapping (paragraph “c” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Criminal Code). Investigation is ongoing.
